Verb: To climb (as a hobby or for recreation.)

The verb kiipeillä (”to climb”) is the frequentative aspect of the verb kiivetä (“to climb”). Frequentive aspects of verbs in Finnish refer to actions which are repeated in either space or time or both. (Read more on that here.) If you are speaking of someone climbing once, you might use kiivetä, but kiipeillä is used when talking about someone climbing on a repeated or ongoing basis.
